So, what’s shaking? The same old thing here, but with a little more happy.
If it seems like I’m extra happy right now it’s because I am. I went to physical therapy as usual on Wednesday and was released as a pt client. That means I’ve improved enough that I can start the work on my own. While I plan to stay on as a wellness client (to use that fab Endless Pool), I’m also going to slowly get back to my old activity level. Part of my ramped up activity includes more low impact bodywork, including PiYo.
I’m sure you’ve heard of PiYo by now because it’s the newest Beachbody release from Chalene Johnson – love her! It’s a home version of the PiYo classes offered in clubs all over the place. I need low impact workouts like Pilates and yoga so that I don’t hurt myself or slow my recovery. As much as I love 21-Day Fix, even the modified movements are too much for me right now. I’ll go back to it when I get the all-clear to do so.
There’s no shame in admitting that you need a change and moving on. Never feel ashamed or let anyone tell you that you’re lazy because you recognize your limits and are working around them . Do not ignore them for the sake of proving you’re not lazy. It’s better to work harder and smarter than to go all out when you’re body is unable. Trust me, I fell into that trap and did much more harm than good.
Now back to my regularly scheduled message.
PiYo has a six days on, one off weekly schedule. Because I’m going to listen to my body, my plan is to start with three days of PiYo with one day of aquatic therapy each week. I’ll train for a day and take the following day off. On my rest days, I’ll still get in my usual five to ten minutes of gentle yoga and walking. My eating plan will stay about the same for now with one exception. Gluten has to go, doc’s orders.
So that’s what I’m up to. If you want to know more about PiYo, my eating plan (regular and cheat day), or how I modify fitness and eating plans to suit my needs, give me a shout. I’m on Facebook and all over social media. Just look for Sherrie Thompson or WAHMinSC. I’d love to hear from you.
I’ll hit the big 44 on March 30 and am celebrating the milestone by kicking up the wellness a notch. Care to join me?
You don’t have to buy anything. You just have to commit to 30 days of something better for you health. Cleaner eating, regular exercise, mediation, less coffee – you decide. Me, I’ll be eating cleaner (vegetarian, good fats, lots of produce and good protein) and starting Chalean Extreme (strength training for increased strength and fat burning). These are my goals, my plan for the month (and beyond). What are yours?
The goal is to push beyond where I am now. I am my own competition. Well, and hubby in a way. We challenge each other to move toward our goals and sort of compete to see if my home workouts or his gym workouts are better. I know home workouts are better for me, period. The hermit in me would rather get my sweat on without the potential audience. The dogs watch, but they get bored and move on. I’m sure people are focused on their own workouts at the gym, but in my mind, they’re peeking over at the limping big girl, wondering why she’s bothering.
I know. It’s my messed up way of thinking. I’m working on it.
But for March, it’ll be a better focus on better eating, lifting heavy four days a week, and at least one cardio workout on a fifth. For cardio, I’ll mix it it between my favs. Why Chalean Extreme? Shorter workouts (which my aching back will appreciate), lots of lifting (which I love), and less cardio (not my favorite thing). I lift now, but I don’t think I’m lifting enough or following the most effective routine. So I’m turning to an expert.
So, what do you say – wanna kick it up with me in March? Join me here, G+, or on Facebook. How will you challenge yourself?
Until next time, peace!
Not all the time, just today. Well, any day that they decide to knock me down by slamming into my knees. And following up by jumping on me in their attempts to get each other. I’m sitting here with throbbing pain bouncing up and down my left side (already my weak side), listening to their tags jingle as they wrestle less than three feet away; oblivious.
At least I got in a little of the morning walk before I ate wet grass, eh?
My knee is wrapped at the moment and hopefully will be good enough tomorrow for walking. Instead of Turbo Jam I’ll dust off Walk Away the Pounds. Today I’ll get in some upper body work and eat well.
I’ve decided to start counting WW points again. I’m not changing how I eat, just making sure I keep my portions in check. And I’m cutting the caffeine down again. I’ve been bad and getting way too much of it lately.
